Agnès Thuillier est assistante opératrice de vue et chef opératrice. Elle collabore à la création d’un film aux côtés du réalisateur. Lorsque j’ai interviewé Agnès, j’ai réalisé, à quel point le poste d’assistante opératrice de vues est un poste clé dans l’industrie audiovisuelle.

Maëlle VABRE : Bonjour Agnès THUILLIER, sur votre profil vous dites que vous êtes “au service du réalisateur”. Qu’est ce que cela signifie au quotidien lorsque vous travaillez en tant que chef opératrice ?

Agnès THUILLIER : Être au service du réalisateur veut dire pour moi l’aider à accoucher de son histoire, ses idées, ses images, en mettant mon expérience, ma technique et mon sens artistique au service du film.

Je considère le chef opérateur comme étant , pour le réalisateur, un maïeuticien au sens platonicien du terme. Concrètement, cela veut dire préparer le film en échangeant beaucoup en amont sur le scénario, l’ambiance, les images. Cette préparation peut revêtir diverses formes concrètes ou abstraites : parler de films, de livres, de peinture, faire des repérages de décors, découper le scénario … Sur le tournage, parler des cadres, de la lumières, suggérer des plans …. N’importe quel opérateur vous tiendra ce discours, cela fait partie de notre travail.

M.V : En tant qu’opératrice expérimentée, quelle erreur voyez-vous fréquemment chez les débutants dans ce métier ?

A.T : L’erreur des débutants, la plus répandue aujourd’hui en ce qui concerne les assistants opérateurs et les jeunes chefs op ? Etre obnubilés par les nouveautés technologiques en oubliant le contenu du film. Penser à faire des » belles images » pour leur bande démo en oubliant de faire l’image du film. Pour les jeunes assistants : faire le point exclusivement avec un moniteur de retour, retards de point garantis !! Et puis, les élèves des écoles de cinéma, souvent, n’ont pas assez de « coeur au ventre », ils n’en veulent pas assez pour réussir dans ce métier où il y a beaucoup d’appelés et très peu d’élus.

M.V : Quel conseil donneriez-vous à une plus jeune version de vous-même qui débute en tant qu’assistante opératrice ?

A.T : Faire une école comme Louis Lumière ou la FEMIS. Ne pas se laisser déstabiliser. Avoir vraiment confiance en soi. Et puis, écouter, regarder, s’entrainer, apprendre … et en vouloir vraiment !!
